Don’t Drink and Drown

Today is day 5 of the CFOA #BeWaterAware Drowning Prevention campaign and the focus over this weekend is raising awareness about alcohol and water…they do not mix.

Alcohol not only uninhibits people….meaning that they may do things that they would not before they had a drink or two…like “jump in” or skinny dip …but it also slows down the brain and bodies reactions, meaning that people are far slower to react to situations and do not necessarily “think straight” .

Too many young lives, in particular, are lost every year after a night out….either when larking about, or because people fall in….so we hope to raise awareness ….if you are going to walk home after a drink….avoid walking by water, do not walk alone…or better still get a taxi or prearrange a lift.
